Patrick Donnelly is currently a junior at Boston University enrolled in the College of Communication, majoring in journalism and minoring in public relations. Currently, Patrick is a co-director and the hockey editor for WTBU Sports, broadcasting, writing, and overseeing articles about both the BU Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams. He also writes columns for WTBU, covering the NHL, the Boston Bruins, and the PGA. Patrick co-hosts a Boston sports podcast twice a week and coordinates in-game social media for WTBU as well.
Additionally, Patrick is a staff writer for the blog, Black ‘N Gold Hockey, covering the Bruins, team affiliates, and the NHL. With BNG, he has attended Boston’s development camp in 2019 in addition to select Providence Bruins home games as a credentialed reporter.
Previously, Patrick served as a staff writer, covering BU Men’s Hockey, for the Boston Hockey Blog of the Daily Free Press during the 2019-20 season. While with the Blog, he produced game previews, recaps, and opinion pieces in addition to co-hosting a weekly podcast. Part of his in-game responsibilities included coordinating the Blog’s social media, providing live updates and highlights.
As a freshman, Patrick worked with BUTV10, the television outlet on campus, appearing on “Offsides” as an NHL analyst, as well as “Terrier Nation” to discuss the men’s ice hockey team.
Before attending Boston University, Patrick previously wrote for and co-hosted podcasts for the blog, Game Time Sports Network, in addition to writing for the blog, 617 Sportsnet. Furthermore, he also co-founded, wrote, edited articles, and co-hosted podcasts for the blog, Beantown Sportshub.
In high school, Patrick was a staff-writer for the student newspaper at Malden Catholic High School, the “Crystal 99,” during his freshman and sophomore years. He was the editor of the sports section during his junior year, and served as the managing editor of the entire newspaper during his senior year.
He grew up in Lynn, Mass. and his goal is to professionally cover the Boston Bruins and the NHL both locally and nationally, aiming to one day be a sports reporter and insider. Patrick often cites NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada as one of his influences. Additionally, he enjoys playing hockey and golf, relaxing with friends, collecting sports memorabilia and visiting New Hampshire’s Mount Washington Valley.
